Imagine this: You are poor. You need food, water, shelter, medicine, basics of life, so much more for those you love than yourself, for children, for your helpless family. So you seek this where you can. You go where you are alone and work hard and long. Then, where you are, where you have worked for so long, authorities decide you are no longer wanted, so they beat you and rape you and imprison you. You turn and find you have no place to go.
Riyadh’s Ethiopian immigrants have been subjected to murder, rape and beatings in savage Saudi outrages against them. To the Saudi regime, their crime is that they are Ethiopian. Saudi officials say, “These people were born to be destitute.”
We cannot stand by silently and allow them to continue in their persecution of defenseless Ethiopians. Can we do anything? Can we share the shame and destitution of our family across the miles? If you believe that families are stronger when they are united, let’s be a family to our sisters and brothers. Lets give some of our time by standing and giving voice in front of the Saudi Embassy together, to say that self-righteous cruel bigots of all the countries involved should be held accountable for their crimes committed against humanity.
And let’s see where our elected representatives stand. Let’s see if we hear a call to action or platitudes.
Most of all, let us not forget our family of all people. LET US BEGIN.
Meet us there.
